Parents and guardians, 90 of our students still have DBMS library books checked out. These books can be turned in over the summer to the front office. Please help us keep our costs down by returning these books so other students can read them. The front office staff has a list of all the books our students still have out.

DBMS is pleased to announce that three of our Science teachers have been accepted to the Forest-to-Classroom STEM program at Haw River State Park. Congratulations to Ms. Galiste, Ms. Sanchez, and Ms. T. Smith (not pictured) for being chosen to participate in this fantastic program!

Ms. Sanchez

About the program: The Forest to Classroom (F2C) professional development program was created to connect educators to forest resources in North Carolina and assist with implementing forestry education in the classroom. Forestry remains one of North Carolina’s top industries, with over 18.6 million acres of forestland in the state.  The 2019 F2C Program is designed to help educators combine STEM and environmental education in their classrooms. The program will include field days, a mill tour to see technology in action, as well as classroom instruction.

DBMS begins EOG testing Tuesday, May 14. Here are some tips to ensure our students are at peak test-taking form.

Get plenty of sleep the night before the test. Our students have to get up early to catch the bus and they need at least nine hours of sleep.

Drink plenty of water this week! Water helps the brain and body work more effectively.

Come to the testing site prepared. No personal belongings or electronics of any kind are allowed in the testing room. Please make sure these items are put in your locker before testing. The only thing you may bring into the testing site is a novel, magazine, comic, or graphic novel so you can read when you are finished testing.

Eat breakfast! All students at DBMS receive free breakfast and lunch. If you don’t eat breakfast at home, please make sure you eat at school.

Be on time. Students should be in their homeroom ready to work by 7:25 a.m. Late students disrupt the testing process and have to make up the exam anyway.

Dress comfortably and in layers. You will be taking the test for up to four hours. Remember dress code includes no blankets.

Remember your test-taking strategies. Do you tend to rush through the test? Make yourself slow down by reading the question and answer choices multiple times.

Finally, relax! You’ve been preparing for this test all year. Sit back and show the world what you know!
