Media Center
Quick Links
Welcome
Hello parents, families, and friends of our awesome student Hawks! Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the Douglas Byrd Middle School Media Center web page. Here, you will find information about the books in the Media Center, ebooks that are available to you 24/7, and some technology tips that can save you time and energy. We are committed to ensure that students are exposed to learning about and understanding the latest research techniques and technology from an educational standpoint. Our Media Center is the hub of the school for information and technology. It is the place for students to experience the love of reading, where students are encouraged to explore the 9,000 plus books and reading materials within the catalog. Our aim for 2024-2025 school year is for all students to have the opportunity to interact with the various gadgets and technology in the media center. Whether it is learning to code spheros, going down a steep roller coaster via virtual reality goggles, or building R2-D2, the Star Wars droid, all students are welcome to access the Media Center and join the digital age, with learning as a priority.
Library Policies
Library hours: 7:00 a.m. until 2:40 p.m. Students are allowed to check out up to two books at a time. Books are due three weeks from checkout and may be renewed if the student wants more time with the book. Books not returned eight weeks after the due date will switch to “lost” and the student will be charged the full price of the book. If the book is returned, the fee will be removed. We do not charge late fees, except lost book fees. If a student has fees from other schools, they may still check out books from the DBMS library. I want students to have access to books. If a student finds an old book from another school, please bring it in and I will make sure those fees are removed.
Battle of the Books
We are currently seeking students to participate in the Battle of the Books (BOB) competition to be held next March 2025. If you want to be on our BOB team, see Ms. Moore. BOB will begin in November.
